Social Distancing!

To my friends and clients of Leslie’s Head Quarters:

Like most businesses, barbershops and salons are advised to remain closed for the month of April. I worry about my clients—meaning you—and about your hair, which I’ve been caring for now for many years.

No one wants to look like a hobo, but I’ve spoken with most of you already and you understand and agree that it’s our duty to wait this contagious virus out a bit, for the health of ourselves, our families and friends and the good old USA.

I am not comfortable just “guessing“ we’re safe or “hoping“ we don’t get sick! It’s too big a risk and our continued good health is my main concern. The only real way to remain safe is following all the hand washing rules and wearing a mask, as well as other precautions (to protect yourself and others), and most importantly: practicing 6’ of social distancing. I don’t have any scissors that long!

Here’s a link to a 3 minute video I just made explaining it further, because it’s just easier to tell you than it is to write it to you! (I miss talking to clients all day as well!!!!)

Be smart, stay strong & stay safe!

Haircutting vs Covid-19

To my clients and friends (who are mostly the same people), I’m really looking forward to cutting your hair at my new place of business: Phlaire, just over the bridge on the Balboa Peninsula. I think you’ll agree it’s a relaxed, pleasant improvement over the old shop. I love it there, and I’m sure you will too.

For the present, though, I hope you’ll also agree that now is not the time to be getting your hair cut. This Covid-19 pandemic is deadly serious business, and one of our only hopes of stopping its spread in California is to heed the state directive to close all non-essential businesses and practice social distancing.

Along with my concern over your health and everyone else’s, this is a life or death matter for me, and I prefer life. As most of you know, I had chemo a few years ago for my CLL type of leukemia. One of the not unexpected effects of the treatment was that it appears to have permanently compromised my immune system, meaning that an illness you might treat with chicken soup could put me in the hospital. If I caught this Covid-19, it could easily result in my permanently social distancing myself six feet of dirt away from you.

I would far rather go on cutting your hair until we all drop at a ripe old age. So let’s avoid taking chances. For the immediate future, I’m sheltering at home and not cutting hair until it is somewhat safer to do so. There may be a rare exception–like if you’ve been away in a bathysphere for the last four months–but otherwise, let’s let  your follicles run free for now, and I’ll look forward to seeing you when this mess is under control.  Be smart and stay strong!
